With this done, use the Windows Search box and type 'command prompt' (without the quotes)'. When it appears at the top of the list right click it and select \u2018Run as Administrator\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>When the Administrators Command Prompt opens type cd\/ and then type 'net stop wuauserv' (without the quotes) and hit Enter, followed by 'net stop bits' and Enter. You should see confirmations that each service was either stopped or wasn't running.<\/p>\n<p>Next, open Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\\Windows\\SoftwareDistribution, and delete its contents including any sub-folders you find there.<\/p>\n<p>Now reboot your PC, open Windows Update and click Check for updates.
